Caroline Plecki - Undergraduate Researcher

Picture
I am an undergraduate student applying to be a Neuroscience major and minoring in Plant Science. My goal is to learn and discover new sustainable ways to combine the power of plants and the brain. I joined Dr. Beilstein's lab January 2017 after learning how cool microbiology is in his class the semester before. Since then I have been working along side other members of the lab on characterizing long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) in the plant family of Brassicaceae, such as Arabidopsis thaliana. I am excited to learn more about how plants can respond and adapt to environmental stress, specifically salty environments, and see how we can apply that knowledge in other areas of science.

Outside of lab, I work on campus as an Supplementary Instruction Leader for chemistry and at Osiris-Rex. I enjoy spending any free time I have reading eastern philosophy books, listening to classic rock (Pink Floyd is my favorite), being outdoors and spending time with my family and friends. My absolute favorite thing to do though is road trip around the country with my Mom and sister camping in one national park to the next. I prefer camping in the West because most of the time the weather is nice and you don't even need a tent. Otherwise I mostly daydream about building my own vegetable and herb greenhouse in the future, but for now I am just trying to keep up with my house plants.
